Weekly TD-SCDMA Update September 8-14
September 12, 2008
- Through its China flagship company Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent announced that the company and Beijing-based Datang Mobile have signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) to further consolidate their partnership on developing TD-SCDMA in China and overseas, Sohu News reported on September 11. Both parties also expressed interest in bidding for the construction of China Mobile's second-phase TD-SCDMA network.

- China Mobile unveiled its plan to lower TD-SCDMA tariffs on the website of China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). Aiming to induce users to access services based on China's own-developed TD-SCDMA standard, the new tariff plan will be initially implemented on a trial basis in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Tianjin for a year, beginning from September 2008. Should the trial prove successful in aforementioned cities, China Mobile expects to expand the tariff plan to other TD-SCDMA cities. The tariff plan comes in four packages catering for different customer groups, including enterprise subscribers, residential subscribers, SMBs (Small and Medium Businesses), and on-campus students.

- Despite of the lack of supportive chipsets, China Mobile recently announced its decision to expedite the testing of a mobile broadband system based on 4G TD-LTE (Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution) standard, ChinaByte.com reported. TD-LTE is developed building on the TD-SCDMA technology.
